What are Essential Oils?

Essential Oils are the naturally occurring aromatic compounds found on various parts of a plant. They help protect the plant and keep it strong and healthy. Our bodies are able to recognize and utilize the oils to stay healthy and happy.

How to Use Essential Oils

  1. Aromatically

    • Add a few drops to a diffuser.

    • Put a drop in your hands, rub them together, hold them over your nose and mouth and breathe in deeply. Be sure not to touch your eyes!

    • To open airways, add a few drops of oil to a mug of steaming water. Place a towel over your head and the mug and breathe in deeply.

  2. Topically

    • Apply a drop or two of oil to your skin on the area you are trying to affect. For example, to support digestion, rub a drop of Peppermint oil clockwise around your belly button.

    • If you are not sure where to apply the oil, the bottom of the feet or down the spine are great places for optimal absorption.

    • If you have sensitive skin or are using the oils on babies, children, or the elderly, always dilute your essential oils by mixing them with a carrier oil. A carrier oil is any plant-based oil, such as fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc. A ratio of 1-3 drops per tablespoon of carrier oil will still do the trick!

  3. Internally (only advisable with doTERRA essential oils)

    • Add a drop of essential oil to your water (be sure to use a glass or stainless steel water bottle). Favorites are Lemon, Lime, Green Mandarin, or Wild Orange.

    • Add a few drops of oil to your cooking. Check out the button below for yummy recipes!

    • For the fastest results, put a drop of oil under your tongue. You can also add oils to an empty veggie capsule or take one of doTERRA’s many premade essential oil supplements.
